In an interview, Family Piknik founder Tom Pooks shared insights into what sets the festival apart.

“I launched the festival in 2012 with a strong concept inspired by open-air events in Canada and Germany but unique to France. We created an open-air, daytime festival open to all generations, with free entrance for kids and seniors aged 55+. The concept of everyone bringing their own food (‘pique-nique’ in French) formed the DNA of Family Piknik.”

He also highlighted the festival’s growth:

“From 1,200 attendees at the beginning, we’ve grown to 25,000 over the weekend in recent editions. Our festival experience, with doors opening in the morning and closing at 2 am, offers a distinct ‘southern’ atmosphere with its seaside location and vibrant decorations.”

On curating the lineup, Tom mentioned:

“Each year, we aim for exclusive performances from influential artists, blending established names with emerging talents. My decades of experience as a DJ and connections with international artists help in curating a diverse lineup. This year, we’re introducing the first Hard Stage in our history.”

Family Piknik also emphasizes community and environmental consciousness. “We’ve stopped selling plastics, pioneered free eco-cups, use solar energy, and collaborate with green local collectives,” said Tom. “Our core values of fun, mixity, and happiness guide our events, ensuring they cater to a diverse audience while maintaining our unique identity.”

Looking ahead, Tom shared, “We’re expanding to new territories, with our first big production abroad in Cyprus on August 29-30. We’re excited to bring the Family Piknik experience to new audiences.”

KASIA releases new interstellar track, “Drowning”, with Armada Music

The rising melodic techno star KASIA bumps the world with a new track. After the recent “Chronix” in collaboration with BINARYH under Zamna Records, the Polish DJ and producer officially releases a new interstellar drop with Armada Music.

Drowning”, combining emotional vocals and high-energy beats with intense synths and deep basslines, is set to move dance floors around the globe. KASIA has already tested this creation in her sets lately and has kept it officially under her spell until now.

“I wrote “Drowning” over a year ago and have kept it as my secret weapon for my own sets. Now, it’s finally time to unleash it on the whole world.

I’m stoked it’s dropping on Armada Music, marking my return to the label after releasing “Universal Nation” with them. “Drowning” is a powerful fusion of hard-hitting stabs, uplifting melodies, and emotionally charged vocals,” tells KASIA.

The lyrics talk about the fight for survival and the low state you get when you feel like you’re drowning. But then the light and savior appear to save everything. Then, new feelings kick in and are overwhelming. “Drowning” was already supported recently by Armin van Buuren & Ruben de Ronde in A State of Trance, where it was the “Progressive Pick” of the week!

Enveloped in the pulsating heartbeat of underground scenes, KASIA crafts a sonic journey that unites the raw intensity of hard sounds with the soul-stirring depths of melancholic introspection. Drawing from a rich tapestry of influences, her music transcends conventional boundaries, inviting listeners into a realm where time bends and emotions reign supreme.

The impressive rising artist is preparing unique sets for her worldwide tour this summer, which includes Hi Ibiza, Ultra Europe, Tomorrowland x Afterlife, Sunrise Festival, and more.

Sara Landry Unleashes Explosive New Track, “Prisoner” With Alex Farell

Hard techno’s high-priestess Sara Landry unveils her latest electrifying single, “Prisoner,” in collaboration with rising UK DJ and producer, Alex Farell.

Hot on the heels of her latest chart-topper “Heaven” featuring Alt8, “Prisoner” arrives not only as the second single from Landry’s highly-anticipated debut album, but as a collaborative testament to her passion for innovation, exploration and experimentation.

A masterful interplay between chaos and ritual, “Prisoner” reveals itself as a visceral, yet transcendent experience that demonstrates the tour de force’s intuitive ability to create ceremonial spaces amongst the highest of frequencies.

Sara Landry & Alex Farell – Prisoner

The juxtaposition of the track’s unrelenting bassline and intoxicating vocal elements that weave throughout its frenetic pulse transport listeners on a cathartic odyssey where sonic and spiritual resonance collide, all at Landry’s command.

Born from a moment of complete spontaneity, “Prisoner” originated from a text Landry sent to Farell when he touched down in Amsterdam late last year. Within a few short hours – quite literally by the time Farell took to the stage for his Verknipt set that same evening – the dynamic composition was completed, showcasing an irrefutable synergy between the artists’ distinct production styles.

Here’s what Alex Farell had to say”

“I am very happy to be releasing again on HEKATE – Sara has been supporting me for a long time now so it’s cool for our collaboration to have its spot on her own label. It was really fun and spontaneous making this one!

I played for Verknipt in December 2023 in Amsterdam and when I landed Sara sent me a text saying to come down to the studio to make a track. We managed to make ‘Prisoner’ before I went to play my set. It was really fun and spontaneous making this one!”

Speaking about the release Sara Landry added:

“Alex is one of my favorite producers right now and a regular on HEKATE, so when it came to deciding which artists I wanted to work with on my upcoming collab album, it was a no brainer to cook something up with him.

‘Prisoner’ is a peak set thumping banger and it has torn the roof off some of the clubs I’ve played at recently. You can really hear both mine and Alex’s production styles in this one. It is the ideal follow up track to ‘Heaven’ to show the vibe of what to expect from the rest of the album.”

An irrefutable powerhouse in the genre, Landry has quickly become one of the most captivating artists in today’s electronic scene known for her dark, driving and divinely feminine brand of hard techno. The self-taught producer, audio engineer and DJ has earned a cult-like following at nothing short of a meteoric pace, amassing over 1 Million monthly listeners on Spotify and consistently selling out 10,000 capacity venues around the world with unprecedented fervor.

Tomorrowland voted The World’s No. 1 Festival

Tomorrowland has been voted the World’s No. 1 Festival in the DJ Mag Top 100 Festivals poll 2024.

Record-breaking numbers had their say in this year’s poll — which opened on 1st May, and closed on 12th June — with the Belgian festival coming out on top for the fourth time, and a third consecutive year.

After topping DJ Mag‘s first ever Top 100 Festivals back in 2019, when the poll was voted for by top DJs, Tomorrowland festival returned to the No.1 spot in 2022 following the shift to a public vote for the first time. Last year, in 2023, the festival secured the triple, boasting a brand new stage and the return of its One World Radio station.

Now, in 2024, the Belgian mega-festival has retained its crown once more: a testament to its continued commitment to pushing the boundaries of production and curation. Stretching across not just one, but two, jam-packed weekends each July, Tomorrowland brings together the biggest names in electronic music, alongside groundbreaking stage design and world-building concepts.

A post shared by DJ Mag (@djmagofficial)

At last year’s Adscendo event, more than 400,000 revellers celebrated love, music, and unity across 16 stages, and danced to the sounds of over 750 electronic music artists. Tomorrowland 2024 is shaping up to be equally spectacular, with over 800 artists — including headliners Armin van Buuren, Amelie Lens, David Guetta, Swedish House Mafia and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike — set to descend on the city of Boom next month.

“Tomorrowland is a passion, a passion of over 200 people working every day to create the magic,” Debby Wilmsen, Tomorrowland’s press relations and internal communications lead, shared when finding out about the festival topping the poll again.

“This year we will celebrate LIFE, the theme is a prequel of the Spirit of Life from 2016 [and a] brand new Main Stage will be introduced at the festival.” Every year we try to offer a broad range of new talents, top international DJs, local artists, new stage hosts and special performances and back to backs. We try to represent all styles and sub-styles in electronic music.”

With over 20 festivals cancelled, postponed or permanently dissolved ahead of 2024’s season, according to a report from the AIF, it’s never felt more important or timely to celebrate all that festivals both large and small bring to our lives through their celebration of music, dancing and togetherness.

And, accordingly, a record-breaking number of votes were recorded in the DJ Mag Top 100 Festivals poll this year. North America was the continent that submitted the most votes, followed by Europe, Asia, South America, Oceania and Africa. In terms of countries, the USA recorded the most votes in 2024, followed by the UK, India, Thailand, Brazil, Italy, Germany, Romania, China (which recorded votes via a dedicated voting platform) and Belgium.

The festivals that appear in 2024’s top 10 remain largely unchanged from last year’s poll, with EDC Las Vegas, Untold Festival and Creamfields all gaining ground to place within the top five.

Kappa FuturFestival is also up four spots to place in the top 10 for the first time. Elsewhere, Terminal V climbs 33 places to No. 44 as this year’s highest climber, and Untold Dubai places at No. 45 as 2024’s highest new entry.

As suggested in the votes delivered above, North America and Europe dominate the top 20, with only Sunburn Festival — the highest placing festival in Asia at No. 11 — appearing from outside those two continents.

As the winner of this year’s poll, Tomorrowland, is also the highest placing festival in Europe, with EDC Las Vegas the highest in North America at No. 2, Creamfields Chile the highest in South America at No. 73, Beyond The Valley the highest festival in Oceania at No. 92, and Oasis the top placed festival in Africa at No. 99.
