Following a four year break the iconic DJ Awards is back for its 23rd Anniversary on 2nd October.
The iconic DJ Awards are making a much anticipated and supersized return after a four year hiatus. Designed to recognize and document outstanding talent, innovation, and contributions within the electronic music community, the 2024 edition takes place on October 2nd.
A Summer of glittering events will build up to that main event, which began with the unveiling of the rebrand at a launch event on Monday 15th July at Ibiza’s Beachouse.
The DJ Awards were founded in 1998 and since then have been recognized as ‘an Oscars for dance music’. Now under new ownership and with substantial investment, the awards are a vital way to celebrate and support global DJ culture and recognize high achievement across the whole sector with high-profile ceremonies that platform the best of the best in several different categories.
Many of those categories will return in 2024, alongside new ones that reflect the ongoing evolution of the industry. As such, this year’s awards will be the biggest and best ever with a focus on Ibiza heritage as well as helping to set and recognise high industry standards.
DJ Awards 2024
Says Jasmine Elias, Head of Awards and Events at DJ Awards, “After a four-year break, I am thrilled to return to the DJ Awards with renewed passion and excitement. With new owners, a fresh vision, and a complete rebrand, we look forward to celebrating the electronic music industry.”
New owner Andy Grant adds, “Thanks to the integrity of the founders, who, for 22 years focused only on recognizing true excellence in global dance music culture, the DJ Awards remains the only true and valid recognition of the community’s achievements.
With this baked into our DNA we are now going to build upon this foundation and create something truly amazing – as important to dance music as the Oscars is to film. I am very proud to play a leading role in the next chapter of the DJ Awards.”
A lot has changed in the world, and the music landscape, since the last edition in 2019, not least the advancements of technology, streaming, AI, web3, the way people consume music, DJ superstardom, discussions around diversity, mental health and plenty more.
As such these key facets of the industry will be recognized in the new look DJ Awards, with nominees to be announced at a later date.
Rising to prominence over the past decade as an artist backed by a wealth of support from BBC Radio 1, Australian-born DJ/producer and label boss Kristin Velvet has garnered consistent support from The Blessed Madonna to Fat Boy Slim and Carl Cox, seamlessly blending her roots with influences from her adopted homes across the globe, including London, Tokyo and most recently, Berlin and Ibiza.
Collaborating with Felix Da Housecat while releasing material via Josh Wink’s Ovum Recordings, Cassy’s Kwench and Hot Since 82’s Knee Deep In Sound, plus her own Arms & Legs which she co-manages with Daniel Steinberg, she continues a busy 2024 with a visit to Damian Lazarus’Crosstown Rebels for the very first time with her two-track EP ‘Wasp Nest/Get Down’ – featuring a collaboration with house pioneer Fred P who also serves up two trademark, deep dives.
Here’s what Kristin Velvet had to say:
“The inspiration for ‘Wasp Nest’ came earlier this year when I was visiting my farm in outback Australia. I found a giant wasp nest in one of the sheds, it was very intricate, alien and fascinatingly trippy.
I wanted to create a unique synth track to reflect the hum of the wasps and the twisted beauty of their nest. ‘Get Down’ came about last year, Fred P and I played a gig in Montenegro, and we bonded in the airport on our way back to Berlin.
I love Fred’s perspective on life, music and art, it was an honour to create this track with a soul I so deeply respect.”
Kristin Velvet Wasp Nest / Get Down EP
Warping and twisting, armed with robust drums and ever-evolving synths, ‘Wasp Nest’ is a trippy excursion through an amalgamation of textures, delivering a driving production with twists and turns at every moment, while the slick ‘Get Down’ pairs crisp percussion and smooth grooves with Fred P’s iconic vocal for a classy house outing.
Delivering his own takes on the production, Fred P’s first reshape is a delightful dive through dubby pads and hazy chords before serving up a cosmic excursion across his ‘Deepness’ reshape to close things in style.
A hidden jewel in the illustrious Dutch festival calendar, Dockyard Festival has – to date – been a closely guarded secret from international eyes. Now, that is all set to change as organizers reveal a very special edition of their ADE showcase: the Dockyard Warehouse Festival at Hembrugterrein on October 19th.
The event celebrates 10 years of Dockyard but rather than presenting a retrospective of what came before, promoters Coen van Dongen and Tania Davison wanted to showcase the future of Dockyard, and the techno scene it serves.
To that end, Dockyard Warehouse Festival will see some of the most exciting names in techno music take to the stage, with a handful of dance floor icons adding extra clout to proceedings.
Acclaimed British outfit HE.SHE.THEY take over one of the four stages at Dockyard Warehouse Festival, bringing with them an array of talent that includes Cera Khin, Chippy Nonstop, SNTS and Wax Wings.
Also on the cards are two tantalizing head to heads: DANZA TRIBALE boss ADRIEL against Vault Sessions resident Grace Dahl, and Briton’s Dax J against underground queen SPFDJ, who Ben UFO hails as “utterly ruthless”.
Also hosting their own stage is Ukrainian duo ARTBAT, who bring their jaw-dropping showstopper ARTBAT pres. UPPERGROUND to Hembrugterrein, and a line-up to match. Joining them is Danish superstar Kölsch, recent ‘PULL OUT’ collaborators Losless and KAS:ST, and fast rising stars Olympe and Fred Lenix.
Dockyard Warehouse Festival ADE 2024
On the official Warehouse stage the talent keeps on coming, the Dockyard bookers showing their prowess with a billing that smacks of the freshest names doing the rounds right now: hot from her Boiler Room debut Blackpool’s Effy; fearless Italian DJ Gigola; Aussie upstart Partyboi69; Dutch favorite Moody Mehran; BBC Radio 1 Future Star Emily Nash; and barrier-breaking French act LB aka LABAT.
The Laboratory stage move than lives up to its name, turning the decks over to the darker, industrial, more experimental side of Techno. Dutch favourites Colin Benders, Noah Leveye and A/DRFT (Live) represent for the home crowd. Berghain resident Fadi Mohem goes b2b with veteran Brazilian The Lady Machine, while Belgium’s Phara goes up against “Rotterdam’s best kept secret”, Stranger.
As the event breathes new life and fresh energy into ADE‘s festival calendar, make sure you’re part of this exciting new chapter in global techno music. Tickets are on sale now via the official Dockyard Warehouse Festivalwebsite.
