The winners in this year’s DJ Mag Best of British awards have been announced during a sold-out event at London’s The Steel Yard, hosted by London-based DJ and broadcaster, Emerald.
In the 18th edition of DJ Mag‘s annual celebration of UK electronic talent, London’s Joy Orbison picked up the prestigious Best DJ award, with AZYR taking home the title of Breakthrough DJ after a huge year. Tech house giant and Solid Grooves co-founder PAWSA took home Best Producer, while rising star Josh Baker won Breakthrough Producer.
In the rap and vocalist categories, Bewdley-born chart topper Becky Hill won Best MC/Vocalist, while Chase & Status collaborator Clementine Douglas took home Breakthrough MC/Vocalist. K-Trap won Best Rap Track for ‘Heaven or Hell’, while Nines scooped Best Rap Album/Mixtape for ‘Quit While You’re Ahead’.
Mala‘s legendary dubstep imprint Deep Medi Musik took home the Best Label award, while Make A Dance‘s M.A.D RECORDS took home Breakthrough Label after a prolific year.
Elsewhere, there were wins for Ezra Collective in the Best Album category, with their joyous third record ‘Dance, No One’s Watching’, and London’s Shygirl in Best Compilation with her contribution to the ‘fabric presents’ series. After dominating festival tents, clubs and airwaves all summer long, Joy Orbison‘s ‘flight fm’ took home the Best Track award for 2024.
East London’s queer clubbing haven Dalston Superstore, which celebrates its 15th anniversary this year, was presented with the Outstanding Contribution award, chosen by DJ Mag’s editorial team to honour the venue’s contribution to the scene.
In the club and event categories, London’s fabric won Best Club, while the Best Club Event gong went to Eastenderz, and Best Festival to Lincolnshire’s Lost Village. Judy Griffith, fabric’s longtime Programming Director, took home this year’s Underground Hero award, which recognizes the champions of grassroots UK music communities.
The sold-out Best of British awards party returned to The Steel Yard, with sets from Joy Orbison, Arthi, Mia Koden and Or:la.
