Get ready for one of the summer’s biggest anthems. Oliver Heldens has teamed up with the talented DJs From Mars to deliver what is primed to be one of the songs of the summer, featuring a sublime vocal performance from JD Davis, that perfectly compliments the addictive production behind the single!
‘Blue Monday‘ is celebrating its 40th anniversary and was a groundbreaking track for the Manchester band New Order upon its release in 1983.
Inspired by Giorgio Moroder‘s similarly game-changing production on Donna Summer‘s ‘I Feel Love‘ Blue Monday pre-empted house music and fused the sound of the pumping Hi-NRG of the era with Peter Hook‘s inimitable bass sound with explosive results, which made it ripe for reimagination.
The new version from Heldens and DJs From Mars is a respectful yet tasteful contemporary version of the classic, retaining the bounce of the original and injecting it with a slick techno sheen with infectious new synths.
Davis‘ understated delivery of the vocal is perfectly ’80s in tone, and the epic breakdown only serves to make that bassline pump harder when it drops back in. It’s been a huge moment in Heldens‘ sets recently and you can expect to hear it blasting across festival and club sound systems all summer long.
Heldens‘ stacked summer season is underway, with key headline performances coming up at The Midway in San Francisco, LA’s famed Historic Park, and Brooklyn Mirage din the US, plus headlining sets at the likes of Lollapalooza in Sweden, Tomorrowland in Belgium, Creamfields in The UK, Ultra in Croatia, Airbeat One and Parookaville in Germany, Mysteryland in The Netherlands and Fest Festival in Poland, amongst a slew of other A-list festivals across Europe.
‘Blue Monday‘ follows hot on the heels of Oliver‘s recent partnership with Manchester City Football Club and their star midfielder Jack Grealish, plus his collaboration with pop goddess Kylie Minogue ‘10 Out Of 10, that just last week landed at #1 in the UK Music Week Pop Chart!
