Dutch duo Shermanology return with ‘Can’t Let Go’, their rework of a garage classic in collaboration with The Godfather and Tony Sherman for the newly launched D’eaupe Demand, out now.
A family affair, ‘Can’t Let Go’ sees the Netherlands-born/based, Curaçao-based siblings reinterpreting The Godfather’s classic ‘90s instrumental ‘Funk Power’, with the duo’s father – soul veteran from the ‘Sherman Brothers’ Tony Sherman – supplying a James Brown-esque lead vocal. The result is a rework of a garage classic in a stylish new Shermanology jacket.
Speaking on the release, the duo said; “This track is a reflection of Shermanology’s history. Combining the UK garage with our soul roots…and there is no better way to top it off with the vocals from dad, Mr. Tony Sherman.”
‘Can’t Let Go’ got its exclusive premiere in Shermanology’s BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix debut, which went live on 10th March and contained all exclusives from the Dutch duo. The single is the inaugural release on D’eaupe Demand, the new label borne out of a collaboration between Shermanology’s label D’eaupe and Public Demand, the legendary UK garage label founded by Jimmy Low. At the core of D’eaupe Demand is the musical relationship between Low and Andy Sherman, and the creative journey they’ve been on since meeting back in 2001.
Brother and sister duo Andy and Dorothy Sherman, aka Shermanology, have spent the last five years refining their signature ‘soultec’ sound, combining their Caribbean and Dutch roots with a garage influence to eclectic effect. Last year they had huge success with ‘It’s A Killa’, their collaboration with Australian producer DJ FISHER, which came out on Fisher’s label Catch & Release and has over 35 million streams.
Their 2022 collaboration with ‘Tell You What It Is’ with Eats Everything received global support, whilst the self-released single ‘Boyz N Da Hood’ also has over 21 million streams and was named Annie Mac’s Hottest Record in the World, whilst their Spotify has over 100 million streams.
After a hectic year of touring North America, playing elrow events across Ibiza and New York and appearing at London shows with Jamie Jones and MK, the duo have a huge 2023 lined up. A festival-filled calendar includes Kappa Futur Festival in Turin, the Martinez Brothers-curated Cuttin Headz, Miami’s LaLaLand Festival, UK dance festival Beat-Herder, Rio’s The Town in September to a capacity of 100,000, and further events hosted by Defected, Dirtybird, elrow, Paradise, and XXXperience. Meanwhile on the release schedule are several exciting remixes and collaborations which will soon be revealed, and upcoming cuts for D’eaupe, D’eaupe Demand, Defected and Cuttin Headz.
Kickstarting off their 2023 in style, ‘Can’t Let Go’ is an uptempo funk fest from the extended Shermanology family – and a head-turning opening statement for the D’eaupe Demand label.
