Artist Collective EX Medias returns for a sophomore compilation album promptly titled WE ARE EX MEDIAS VOL II. This time, the compilation features a quaint 5 songs from it’s hefty member list, acts Galena Crew, Blank Ages, #BBC, AireLoosh, and TURBO all making an appearance.
The label was founded by DJ/producer Able Grey – real name Peter Ceko – bringing to life a vision which has been years in the making.
The mission of the collective is to foster community based on supporting one another, inspiring successful actions, and helping maintain the tried and true path each member is destined to be on with their career path. The collective radiates passion and integrity, each name fashioning a corner of a fascinating lexicon of talent with no preconceptions or false flexes staged.
WE ARE EX MEDIAS VOL II. is kicked off by Galena Crew and featured vocalist Finn. The single instantly pulls the listener into a fantasy-driven cinematic world brought forth by lush soundscape, angelic verses, and side-chain synths that rip on a heavenly level. The single doesn’t overdo it with extreme technicality and clunky writing – the moments are smooth and fluid, allowing the rich mood to be present and impactful.
Blank Ages follows up with “Shanghai Dreams,” a vibe that will keep you on your toes as to what will come next. Unique samples and rhythms launch the listener into a space that’s all its own. Unique static effects tease a dichotomy of genres all in the same go, the listener is suddenly launched into a plethora of breaks along with drum and bass – an all instrumental experience unfolding with a sense of theatrical drama. High energy and leaving you wanting more, the song helps one get sinked into the quality journey that Ex Medias brings to the table.
Next up is #BBC shakes things up with a heart melting, soul-stirring vibe in “So Long.” A bit more eased and laidback, the intricacies of what’s at hand easily settled into the senses. The dynamic vocal work is the focal point of the song, with the melodic trap drops delivering a fitting juxtaposition to the theme.
AireLoosh hashes out the heat with a festival-ready instrumental banger not for the faint of heart. “Gaze,” is the name of the game, blending in dark-trap flavors with strong written drops. The tension and release mixed with extreme energy levels leaves one with a jaw dropping impression of the power AireLoosh is capable of. Sonic surprises are found across this compilation, but AirLoosh is a brilliant corner to this collective experience.
Last, but certainly not least, TURBO rounds things off with a riddim-laced release “Breathing Danger.” Head banging suspense is around every turn here. Lightning-fast lasers and dirty basslines grind through to build a hard-hitting fabric every basshead would revel in. It’s the arrangement and sound design that allows this single to stand out, this artist bringing a diverse compilation to a close.
