Zeds Dead and Subtronics have teamed up for yet another collaboration – Gassed Up – the latest from Subtronic’s forthcoming album FRACTALS. The trio have also tapped UK grime rapper Flowdan for an adrenaline-inducing verse, injecting energy into the track pre-drop before all hell breaks loose.
Gassed Up encapsulates Zeds Dead’s vintage dubstep sound; a genre they were instrumental in popularizing in the late 00s, ushering in the era of EDM in North America. Subtronics, who became enamored by the dubstep scene that soundtracked his high school years, credits Zeds Dead for introducing him to the genre that eventually became his bread and butter.
Subtronics shared some words about working with Zeds Dead and Flowdan:
“GASSED UP” with Zeds Dead and Flowdan is one of my favorite songs on the album. I am a massive, massive fan of Flowdan and beyond honored to have him on the track. The UK inspired grime sections leading into emotionally impactful walls of sound just, ugh, I love this tune and stand by it with my entire soul.”
Hooks and DC of Zeds Dead also further elaborate:
“This is our 3rd time collaborating with the homie Subtronics and each time has been such an awesome experience. Been road testing this one since the summer and it took a bit to dial in the vocal but when we connected with the legendary Flowdan we knew we had it!”
Zeds Dead and Subtronics previously collaborated on Bumpy Teeth (in 2019) and again last year for a remix of Atmosphere’s GodLovesUgly.
Subtronics just announced his debut album ‘FRACTALS’ will be released January 14th. The album coincides with his massive 50+ date national headline The FRACTAL Tour commencing on the same date, which will feature state of the art production and visuals. Notable venues on the run include Navy Pier, WaMu Theater, Coca Cola Roxy, Avant Gardner and more.
Meanwhile, Zeds Dead have also had an eventful 2021, returning to the touring circuit after a prolonged hiatus due to the pandemic. In July they headlined two sold-out shows at Red Rocks – aka Deadrocks – their 7th time they’ve headlined the iconic Colorado venue. Next they embarked on the Deadbeats: The Revival Tour, playing dozens of shows across North America over the past two months, including two sold out homecoming shows in Toronto in November.
Zeds Dead closed out the year in style, playing B2B with GRiZ at Zero Gravity in Louisville on New Years Eve, to close out the year. Then The Revival Tour concludes with two sold-out shows at Echostage in Washington, DC this weekend.
