Sziget is running a special Earth Day flash sale today to celebrate our planet! The first 500 Szitizens to purchase a 7-day pass will automatically receive a 7-Day VIP pass – Very Important Planet and a SzigEthical Pack, which includes an organic T-shirt, canvas bag, BPA-free flask, and a Sziget Apple.
This year, a plethora of new Green Sziget initiatives have been added to the festival’s already far-reaching environmental programs. Waste management, emission levels, water usage, energy efficiency and sustainability are all crucial focus points. New locations include a Green Sziget Center, where visitors will be able to attend diverse workshops and performances.
There will also be a Green Sziget Vendor Program, where environmentally conscious vendors will gather and prepare healthy meals all the while producing lower CO2 emissions. A Collective Composting Lab will also be set up at Sziget and humus material made here will be used during the recultivation of Óbuda Island. In addition to the mobile compost, there will also be a ‘visual lab’ where the composting process will be presented scientifically.
The festival will once again feature reusable cups that can be donated to Superar, a charity that supports the music education of underprivileged children. Last year’s don’t suck straw policy is also back, along with Eco Camping powered by E.On.
Recycling is extremely important and besides the 140 recycling locations on site, there will also be about 50 Volunteers going around the festival and collecting selective waste. The selling of plastic bags is once again illegal at the festival.
The sale runs until 11:23pm (CEST) tonight. For more info via link.
