Rock am Ring, a music festival in western Germany, is being evacuated over a “terrorist threat”, the organisers have announced.
80,000 people were evacuated from the Rock am Ring, at the Nürburgring in the north-west of the country on Friday, after police received information on a suspected terror threat. It has not yet been confirmed the nature of the threat and an investigation has been launched.
This new threat comes just weeks after the terrible bombing that occurred in Manchester, England during an Ariana Grande concert.
The organisers said in a Facebook post they hoped the festival would resume on Saturday:
“Due to a terrorist threat the police have advised us to interrupt the festival. We ask all festival visitors to leave the festival site in a calm and controlled manner towards the exits and camping grounds. We have to support the police investigations.
All visitors will be kept informed about any developments on all Rock am Ring Social Media channels, radio and the speakers. We hope that the festival will continue tomorrow. Thank you for your cooperation.”
